Thursday Night Racing

Thursday evenings have been busy this year as various clubs seem to be promoting more weekday evening races than in years past.

On June 25th, Jeff Kluck and Bob Greigg raced the FAB Time Trial #3 outside Sioux Falls. Jeff was 1st and Bob 6th in the Open category contest.

McNeil, Kluck, Feagan Tops at Ponca

85 racers (20 more than last year) came out to test themselves against one of the tougher venues in the Midwest at Ponca State Park on Saturday, June 20th.

Hosted by SC Velo for the fourth consecutive year, Ponca's Revenge served up tacky to slippery trails after the heavy overnight rains of Wednesday. The day was sunny and humid with temps in the low 80's.

Results- SC Velo TT #1

12 racers came out Wednesday for the first of our USAC sanctioned 4-race 20K time trial series. An hour before the race, the temperature was around 90 degrees and sunny but by race time it was becoming cloudy and the temperature had dropped several degrees. It was quite humid and the wind was from the south around 5mph.

Nebraska State Time Trial

Cody McCullough had the top Powerade/IF placing of the day at the Nebraska State Time Trial in Yutan on June 13th. He finished 2nd with a time of 51:42 to Jarred Berger (Ciclismo) who notched the days best time with an outstanding 49:57 (27.92mph) over the 23.25 mile course. Also competing in the 1,2,3 race were Clark Priebe 6th (52:47), Jon Nelson 10th (54:08), Bill Feiges 15th (57:04) and Marc Walter unfortunately DNF.

Spoke-n-Sport Crit #3

Buddy Houts and Bob Greigg made the trip to Sioux Falls Thursday evening, June 11th for the third installment of the Spoke-n-Sport Criterium series. It was a pleasant evening for racing with a 5mph SE wind and a temp around 70 degrees.

Norfolk Classic Weekend

It was a wet weekend for the Powerade/IF team at the Stanton Road Race and the Norfolk Criterium June 6-7th. Despite the unpleasant conditions, the team still came away with some top results.

Busy Weekend for Powerade/IF Team

It was a busy weekend for Powerade/IF racers. Marc Walter and Clark Priebe went down south to compete in the Tulsa Tough omnium races May 29th-31st. Clark's best results were 1st in the 40+ category race at the Main & Brady criterium and 3rd at the 40+ 13th & Riverside crit. Marc was 17th and 15th, respectively, in the same races.

PIF Trio Sweeps Sioux Falls TT

Cody McCullough, Jeff Kluck and Bill Feiges took spots 1-3 respectively at the Sioux Falls FAB time trial on the evening of May 28th.

Our three bested the 18 others in the Open category event described as a moderately hilly 9.3 mile out and back course.

Iowa Cup Standings

Jon Nelson and Bill Mize added to their lead in the 40+ standings by virtue of their results over Memorial Weekend. Jon has a good lead with 26 points and Bill is 2nd with 19. Jim Cochran of Atlas jumped into 3rd with 17 points after winning at Melon so they will have to watch out for him.

Quad Cities Weekend

The Powerade/IF was well represented in the Quad Cities over the Memorial Weekend holiday. Our youngest member, Buddy Houts, did very well in his debut at the midwest classic. Racing in the 14 year old age group, he was 3rd at Snake Alley, 3rd at Melon City and 4th at Quad City. He also raced Cat 5's and was 22nd at Snake and 41st at Melon.

Team Sweeps Top 5 in Sioux Falls

Powerade/IF took the top 5 places at the 2nd Spoke-n-Sport series criterium on Thursday evening May 14th.

Situated at a industrial park on the north edge of Sioux Falls, the .70 mile course features 3 corners and a big curve. It's slightly downhill after the first and second corners into a curving stretch that kicks up a bit to the third corner and gradually inclines through the start/finish strait. The weather served up a 10mph north wind, clouding up skies and a temp around 60 degrees.

SC Velo Obtains 501(c)(3) Determination

Sioux City Velo has recently received its determination from the IRS that it is an exempt entity under 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. As a result, contributions are tax deductible. Our club is also entitled to receive tax deductible bequests, devises, transfers or gifts.

Clark Priebe Joins SC Velo

SC Velo is pleased to announce that Clark Priebe is now onboard as a member of our Powerade/IF racing team. Clark, a Category 1 racer, has recently moved to Sioux City from Eagle Grove, IA.

Iowa Cup Standings

After three events in the 2009 Iowa Cup, John Nelson (1st) and Bill Mize (2nd) have a healthy lead in the 40+ standings with 20 points and 17 points respectively.

Bill Feiges is in a 3-way tie for 1st place with 10 points among the Cat 4's. Todd Juhlin relinquished his place in those standings after recently upgrading to Cat 3.

Finchford-Roubaix Road Race

It was a good day for some and not so much for others among the Powerade/IF tribe at the road race in Finchford, IA on May 9th. The familiar 5.5 mile loop northwest of Cedar Falls was the third event on the 2009 Iowa Cup schedule.

Spoke-n-Sport Crit Series

Central Plains Cycling is hosting a Thursday Night Crit series this year. $10 per race. Payout is 3 places.

The time trial dates are now posted over there ->. Fabian Cancellara emailed wanting to know the course record time so train up.

Walter at Tour of the Gila

Marc Walter competed in the 40+ race at the 5-stage Tour of the Gila in Silver City, NM April 29th- May 3rd.

He was 19th in the Mogollon RR, 10th in the Inner Loop RR, 12th in the Tyrone TT, 34th in the Downtown Crit and 21st in the Gila Monster RR. Marc ended up 17th of 43 in the Final GC. Former pros Michael Carter and Jame Carney were 1st and 2nd on GC, respectively. Buddy of Lance, John "College" Korioth

McCullough 1st at Marty RR

Despite being outnumbered by the locals, the Powerade/IF team had a great day yesterday at the Marty, MN road race. Cody McCullough won the 35+ race with Bill Feiges coming in 9th and Bill Mize in 12th.
