The Flatwater Cycling Weekend kicked off Saturday with the "Capital City Criterium" south of the Capital building in Lincoln, NE.
The course is a flat, 8-corner, U-shaped loop on bumpy streets with a long false-flat drag to the finish. The main antagonist of the day, besides the sudden appearance of heat and humidity, was the wind. Increasing throughout the day, the southerly wind gusted at times upwards of 40mph. Luckily for the racers, the wind would be at their backs in the long stretch through the start/finish area and was felt mainly in 3 sections for short periods.
After 3 events in the 2010 Iowa Cup Series, Cody McCullough has maintained his lead in the 40+ standings with a 4-point lead over Paul Denninger (Velosport).
Clark Priebe is in 2nd place- 5 points behind Bryan Moritz (Bikes to You) in the Pro/1/2 category.

Some team Powerade/IF racers made the annual spring trip to contest the popular weekend rural road race and downtown criterium at Iowa City April 24th-25th.
Cody McCullough notched his first victory of the season by taking the win in the Master's 40+ road race on the familiar, mildly rolling course near the Kalona Cheese Factory on Saturday. Overcast skies and some wetish roads were in store but unlike past years, the wind wasn't a factor this time only blowing at around 10mph from the southeast. Bob Greigg finished 13th. Bill Feiges was 7th in the concurrent Master's 50+ race.
