Some team Powerade/IF racers made the annual spring trip to contest the popular weekend rural road race and downtown criterium at Iowa City April 24th-25th.
Cody McCullough notched his first victory of the season by taking the win in the Master's 40+ road race on the familiar, mildly rolling course near the Kalona Cheese Factory on Saturday. Overcast skies and some wetish roads were in store but unlike past years, the wind wasn't a factor this time only blowing at around 10mph from the southeast. Bob Greigg finished 13th. Bill Feiges was 7th in the concurrent Master's 50+ race.
Jeff Kluck was 6th in the Category 3 race. Clark Priebe finished 35th in the Pro,1,2 65-mile skirmish won by Bryan Moritz (Bikes To You/World of Bikes).
Sunday's criterium was on the traditional loop in downtown Iowa City where the sprints up the hill in front of the Old Capitol building tend to sort out the contenders from the pretenders in the early going.
McCullough again had another top result by taking 2nd to former pro Dale Sedgwick (Bianchi-Grand Performance). With his placings, Cody will be the early leader in the M40+ Iowa Cup Standings.
Bill was 5th in the 50+ race. Jeff was also 5th in the Cat 3 race. Clark came in 6th in the Pro,1,2's race that saw a 1-2-3 finish by the guys from team Texas Roadhouse Cycling Team P/B Motorex.
The next Iowa Cup series event will be the May 16th criterium at the State Fairgrounds. -Posted 4/27/10
