2 Wins at Stanton Road Race

Written by: Admin

The Stanton Road Race enjoyed warm, sunny conditions in 2010 which was a stark contrast to the chilly rain of last year. Each square, 32-mile lap featured moderately rolling hills while the machine-ground surfaces on half the course made for a rough ride. Two of our Powerade-IF racers would emerge victorious on Saturday, June 5th.

In the combined 1/2 plus Cat 3's 64-mile race, an early ride-away by an EVCC rider was quickly brought back after the pressure was applied on the hills east of Stanton. That tempo sifted out a few weaker riders early who would face a long slog on their own to the finish line. After a trio of 1/2's finally separated themselves from the rest of the field to sort out the win, Jeff Kluck launched his own attack 14 miles from the finish in a bid for the Cat 3 win. Jeff would continue to extend his lead for an impressive solo victory. Jon Nelson would sprint-finish 5th in the 1/2's. Bob Greigg DNF the Cat 3 race.

In the Cat 4 race, Brent Linn suffered a hard crash on a downhill section of the second lap. Badly road-rashed on his right side, plus a broken helmet and damaged bike, he DNF.

Buddy Houts won the Junior race solo after he was able to separate himself from the rest of the youngsters and hung in with the Cat 5 field in the 32-mile combined race. -Posted 6/10/10
